bootstrap.dat Installation Guide
« on: December 18, 2017, 10:46:37 am »
The bootstrap process speeds up the wallet sync with the Crown blockchain. It can be especially useful if you have
a slow internet connection.

The steps are:

Go to https://crown.tech/wallet and download the bootstrap.dat file
Make sure your Crown wallet is closed

On Windows: Copy the bootstrap.dat file to AppData/Roaming/Crown
On macOS: Make sure bootstrap.dat is located in your Downloads folder
Open your macOS terminal and enter
Code: [Select]
cp ~/Downloads/bootstrap.dat ~/Library/"Application Support"/CrownThis command will give no visual output. To check if it was successful, enter
Code: [Select]
ls ~/Library/"Application Support"/Crown and see if bootstrap.dat is listed
Now re-open your wallet and you're done! Syncing with the blockchain should be quicker

On linux: copy the bootstrap.dat inside /home/{user}/.crown folder and run the client.

Question on that, it starts loading the .dat, and renames it to bootstrap.dat.old as it should, but then it starts syncing from block 0 as it would normally... Any tips anyone?

As I understand it, the bootstrap doesn't contain all blocks, just a selection (e.g. every other block). The regular sync process afterwards should then fill in the gaps.

Not sure if that's how it actually works though - just what I was told

I've just tried to download this... but man is it slow!

Can we maybe host it somewhere on a faster server? It's like 600kb/s or something  :-\

Isn't it your DL speed? When I downloaded it from my Scaleway VPS, took like 20 seconds.

Win10x64, 32GB Ram, i7 3770K

I put bootstrap.dat in to the Crown AppData folder and started up the wallet. It spent about 20 minutes on 'Importing from disk' and then when that was done it started syncing with the network -- but the number of blocks that it reported was only those it had synced over the network. The backup looked like it did nothing.

Is this normal? I've been letting it sync for about 2 hours now and I'm still at 2 years and 20 weeks behind. Is there any way to speed this up? Maybe I could add some of the master/tron nodes to download from a server?

Sorry, I'm being impatient, I just feel this should be a lot faster (I'm on gigabit).

You can add peers to your crown.conf file, this will speed up the syncing process:

Try these
addnode=108.61.178.55:9340
addnode=95.85.27.206:9340
addnode=85.217.171.132:9340
addnode=54.37.92.209:9340
addnode=217.182.209.190:9340
addnode=80.209.231.248:9340

Or open the debug console(Tools->Debug Console) and type the following:
addnode add
